Flowers for the Elderly
Hi, Emmanuelle here! Founder & caretaker of The Lotus Herd.
When I lost both my parents in a very short time frame, I spent a lot of time planting & tending to dahlias & zinnias at the ranch & arranging countless bouquets. I soon realized what a profound effect this played in my grieving process & decided to try distributing flowers to our local memory care building.
We had special vests designed for our minis which had slots on each side to hold flowers. Not only did our minis look adorable but the residents’ reactions were wonderful. Some of the patients who did not fully open up to the horses would light up & be so touched by the simple gift of a flower.
Man or woman, everyone loved it. This gave me the idea to grow dahlias and zinnias on a bigger scale at the ranch, using the rich compost we are able to generate year long via our animals without using harsh chemicals. We are hoping to distribute many flowers all summer long & on select holidays to residents & their medical staff.
